A rare cased limited edition (number 10) English solid sterling silver wager cup (or marriage cup). It is hallmarked for London 1973 with the makers mark being that of Hyman Dinerstein. The Marriage cup originated in Bavaria c1560 and was called a 'Jungfraubecher'. It is a double drinking cup used in a wedding, the skirt cup for the groom and the smaller tilting cup for the bride. The idea is to both drink the contents at the same time without spilling a drop. They were later used as a wager cup that the end of the 19th century. This example was made to mark the Royal wedding of Princess Anne. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs, still cased with its certificate - all in perfect condition. . It measures approx. 8.5 inches (21.5cm) tall by 3 inches (7.2cm) across the larger cup and weighs 275 grams excluding the case. A rare top quality interesting piece.
